NSFAS Opening Date For 2025
The NSFAS application has been opened for the next academic year 2025. Applicants who wish to apply for the NSFAS for the 2025-2026 academic year can apply, the management of the National Students Financial Aid Scheme is urging all persons before applying through the myNSFAS Students Portal, to make sure you are in the eligible criteria for the NSFAS and have all documents prepared.
Applicants are informed to submit their applications as soon as possible as they become available and before the due dates for NSFAS to evaluate them for 2025.

Application Opening Dates And Deadline for NSFAS Application 2025
The NSFAS Application portal opens on 21, November 2024, and ends on 31, January 2025 therefore, interested applicants must be ready to apply for it since the application portal is currently open and is accepting applications from eligible students for the next academic year 2025-2026.
Prospective candidates are urged to submit their application before the closing date as late application may not be tolerated by the National Students Financial Aid Scheme.
Eligible Criteria to Apply for NSFAS 2025
If you are a citizen of South Africa planning to study or already studying at a public university or any TVET colleges and meet the following criteria, then you are eligible for the NSFAS bursary for the 2025-2026 academic year:
- All SASSA grant recipients
- Must have an e-mail and cell phone number
- Be a citizen of South Africa with a valid ID number
- Be a first-time entering university or TVET college student
- Household income must not exceed R350,000 per annum
- Must meet the academic standard for admission to a university or any TVET college
- For persons living with health conditions, household income should not exceed R600,000 per annum
Required Documents for NSFAS Online Application 2025-2026
Below are the required documents for the NSFAS online application for 2024
Students with a disability must provide the following:
- A completed and signed Annexure A Form
Students recognized as vulnerable children must provide the following:
- Candidates who are recognized as vulnerable children by the Department of Social Development must provide and Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker
Other Required Documents
- Retrenchment letter
- Death certificate/s
- Divorce Decree
- Proof of legal guardianship
- Marriage certificate
- other documents may be required for appeal purposes
Online Application for NSFAS 2025-2026
The NSFAS online Application process for 2025 is very easy, simple, and accurate. When applying online, you will be prompted when a piece of information is incorrect or missing helping you to ensure that you add all the important information when submitting the online application form.

Create a profile:
Create a myNSFAS account via the link https://my.nsfas.org.za/ or download the NSFAS App on Google Play or App Store. Your ID number will be your username.
Apply now:
Click on the Apply tab to update your personal information and upload your application supporting documents as indicated.
Completed:
Submit your application
Check NSFAS Application Status For 2025
- Go to NSFAS status check 2025 portal at www.nsfas.org.za
- Click on the myNSFAS tab of the homepage at the top right menu
- Login to myNSFAS account with your username: ID Number and password
- Click on Track Funding Progress to check NSFAS Status 2024
