Qualifying for the SRD SASSA aid is not that difficult. The first thing to note is that this particular scheme is for all citizens of South African citizens and anyone who is permanently resident in the country. If you are a citizen or a permanent resident and your income is below the minimum wage, you also fall within the bracket of people who can apply for this particular aid. The catch here is that you must make sure, you are not in any other financial aid scheme before applying for this particular one. There are several other such grants for child support, disability and others, you must ensure you are not on any of those before applying for the SRD SASSA

The application process for the SRD Grant 2025

The SASSA SRD grant can be applied for online, via WhatsApp or by visiting a SASSA office. The online application process is the most convenient and quickest method.

To apply online, follow these simple steps:

  • First, open the official site of the SASSA online:
  • Look for the “SRD Grant” link on the homepage and click on it.
  • If this is the first time you are applying for the grant, you will have to register first.
  • You register by supplying some details about yourself: These include your name, your ID number, your telephone number and your residential address
  • After registration, an SMS will be sent to your number with your username and password.
  • Now, with the username and password given to you, you can log into your account
  • Go ahead and fill in the application form now by supplying the requested information such as your details, your bank details, and contact information.
  • Upon completing the form online, click on the “submit” button
  • Waiting patiently for a confirmation message

You can always check the status of your application by logging in to your account and clicking on the “check status” button.

To apply SASSA via WhatsApp 2025

follow these instructions:

  1. First, save the SASSA WhatsApp number (082 046 8553) to your contacts
  2. Then, send a message to the number that says “Hi” or “Hello”
  3. Once you do, you will receive a prompt for your application
  4. Follow this prompt to complete your application
  5. Now, give your banking details where you can receive your assistance.
  6. If you don’t have a bank account, select “cash payment option”
  7. After you submit your application, you will receive a reference number via WhatsApp that you can use to check the status of your application.

Take note

Please note that the SRD SASSA is not a permanent scheme, as such it is subject to change as and when government deems fit. For those who are able to qualify for it, they shall be getting a stipend of R350 every month for three months continuous. But the government might elongate the period of the help if it thinks it is worth extending.
