Simple Method On How to Apply For A SASSA Pension Grant 2025-2026
The Sassa pension grant or Old Age Grant is a payment from the government of South Africa, to people residing in South Africa over the age of 60 years. This grant aims to provide means of financial assistance to eligible beneficiaries.
Keep in mind that the value of the Older Persons Grant is determined by the recipient’s age. As of April 2025, the old age pension is R2 080 per person per month for those aged 60 to 74, and R2 100 per person per month for those aged 75 and beyond. From October 2025, the grant will be increased to R2 090 (an R10 increase) for those aged 60 to 74. For persons over 75, the allowance will be increased to R2 110 from October 2025 (an R10 increase). Who is Eligible For Sassa Pension Grant?
To be able to apply for the Sassa grant, the applicant must;
- be a South African citizen, permanent resident or refugee
- live in South Africa
- not receive any other social grant for yourself
- not be cared for in a state institution
- not earn more than R86 280 if you are single or R172 560 if married.
- not have assets worth more than 1 227 600 if you are single or R2 455 200 if you are married.

How To Apply For A Sassa Pension Grant
To apply for the Sassa Old Age Grant, applicants can either apply online via the official website or visit a SASSA office to apply.
To Apply In-Person;
- Visit a SASSA office close to you
- Completed the SASSA application form in the presence of a SASSA officer
- After completing the application form completely, you will be given a dated stamped receipt that includes the name of the SASSA official who aided you with your application.

To Apply Online;
- Visit the SASSA services official website on any device with internet connectivity
- Register as a new user on the SASSA services website, by clicking the yellow “Register”
- Provide the required personal information
- Log in to the SASSA services website using your newly created username and password.
- Click on “Apply for a Grant” and then select the type of grant you wish to apply for.
- Fill in the grant application form by providing all the required information.
- Print the affidavit prepared by SASSA and get it certified by an oath commissioner. Print, sign, and mail your affidavit together with the Bank Payment Form.
- Upload the following certified supporting documents in PDF format.

Sassa Pension Grant Application Required Documents
Applicant must provide the following:
- ID Document; if this is not available, you may submit an affidavit to confirm personal information, this must be completed in the presence of a Commissioner of Oaths who is not a SASSA official.
- Refugee status permit and 13-digit refugee ID: if applicable
- Proof of marital status:
- Marriage certificate: if you are married
- Divorce order: if divorced
- Copy of spouse’s death certificate, their will, and the first and final liquidation and distribution accounts where applicable: if your spouse died within the last 5 years
- Proof of residence
- Proof of income or dividends (your own and your spouses): if applicable
- Proof of assets, including the municipal value of your property: if applicable
- Proof of private pension: if applicable
- 3 months’ bank statements
- Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) (‘blue book’) or discharge certificate from your previous employer, if you were employed
Important Information
Applications are evaluated within three months, following which you will be notified in writing if your application was accepted or refused. SASSA will offer a rationale for your rejection if you were refused. If your application was refused, you can ask SASSA to reconsider it. If your application is still refused after reconsideration, you may file an appeal with the Minister of Social Development.
