R350 Relief Grant How To Apply
The South African government initiated the Social Distress Relief Grant (R350) during the pandemic. SRD grant recipients who lack the resources to support themselves are intended to benefit financially from this program. Provided that the candidate fulfills the requirements, the grant is worth R350 per month.
The Special COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress amount is R350 per month, from the date it is approved. Applicants will be paid from the month in which they apply. To apply for R350 grant, You will need to submit the following information;
- ID Number (or your passport number/ special permit if you are not a South African citizen)
- Full Name and Surname (as stated on your official ID document/ passport)
- Phone number (SASSA will use this number to contact you regarding your status so make sure you have access to this mobile number)
- Physical Address

Who Can Apply For Social Distress Relief Grant?
- South African Citizens, Permanent Residents, or Refugees registered with Home Affairs;
- Resident within the borders of the Republic of South Africa;
- Above the age of 18;
- Unemployed;
- Not receiving any income;
- Not receiving any social grant;
- Not receiving any unemployment insurance benefit and does not qualify to receive unemployment insurance benefits;
- Not receiving a stipend from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme;
- Not receiving any other government COVID-19 response support; and
- Not resident in a government-funded or subsidized institution.
How To Apply For R350 Relief Grant 2025
To apply for the R350 Grant, you will need a mobile phone, computer, or laptop, and internet connectivity. Sassa has developed various methods of applying for the unemployment grant. Below are the various methods for applying for the unemployment grant;
Apply via WhatsApp:
- Send a message via WhatsApp to 082 046 8553
- Provide your details
- You will receive a Reference number, an OTP, and a link to click
- Click on the provided link, fill in your OTP, and verify your account
- Fill in your surname and ID number
- Confirm the personal details that you provided via the WhatsApp chat
Apply via the SRD Website:
- In your internet browser, visit the SRD Website(if you are a Refugee, Asylum Seeker, or Special Permit Holders, find out how to apply here)
- Fill in your mobile number and ID number and click “send SMS”
- You will receive a 6-digit OTP via SMS
- Insert the OTP number on the SRD website and click “verify pin”
Using the SASSA Chatbot:
- In your internet browser, visit the SASSA Website
- Click on the SRD R350 Grant assistance chatbox (the orange box on the side of the screen)
- Fill in your ID number and mobile number
- On the chat, choose the option to apply for the SRD R350 grant
- Click on the SRD website link provided by the SASSA Chatbot
- Follow the SRD website steps
To Apply In-Person;
- Visit a SASSA office close to you
- Completed the SASSA application form in the presence of a SASSA officer
- After completing the application form completely, you will be given a dated stamped receipt that includes the name of the SASSA official who aided you with your application.
