Sassa Caregiver Grant Qualification Requirements 2025-2026
To apply for the SASSA Care Dependency Grant, you must first fulfill the qualification requirements (which are subject to change). The general requirements are provided below;
- You must be a South African Citizen, a Permanent citizen dwellers, or a Fugitive
- You must be a parent, a foster parent, or a primary caregiver of a child under 18 years old
- The child must NOT be receiving permanent care in a state-funded institution
- You and the child must both settle in South Africa
- You must be able to prove that the child is severely disabled and is receiving permanent care or support services
- You and your spouse must meet the requirements of a means test – see the amount below (this does not apply to foster parents).
How To Apply For A Sassa Caregiver Grant 2025-2026
To initiate your application for the Care Dependency Grant, you have two options: visit a nearby SASSA office or use the online application process. You can obtain the application form from the SASSA office and it must be filled out in the presence of a SASSA officer.
If you require assistance in completing the form, either due to personal limitations or by appointing someone on your behalf, a SASSA officer will be available to guide you through the process. Follow the below procedure to apply for the Sassa Caregiver Grant 2025-2026;
Apply via WhatsApp:
- Send a message via WhatsApp to 082 046 8553
- Provide your details
- You will receive a Reference number, an OTP, and a link to click
- Click on the provided link, fill in your OTP, and verify your account
- Fill in your surname and ID number
- Confirm the personal details that you provided via the WhatsApp chat
Apply via the SRD Website:
- In your internet browser, visit the SRD Website(if you are a Refugee, Asylum Seeker, or Special Permit Holders, find out how to apply here)
- Fill in your mobile number and ID number and click “send SMS”
- You will receive a 6-digit OTP via SMS
- Insert the OTP number on the SRD website and click “verify pin”
Using the SASSA Chatbot:
- In your internet browser, visit the SASSA Website
- Click on the SRD R350 Grant assistance chatbox (the orange box on the side of the screen)
- Fill in your ID number and mobile number
- On the chat, choose the option to apply for the SRD R350 grant
- Click on the SRD website link provided by the SASSA Chatbot

Legal Papers Required To Apply For Caregiver Grant 2025-2026
Applicants must provide the following documents when applying for the grant form Sassa;
- The child’s ID Document or Birth Certificate (if this is not available, you may submit an affidavit to confirm personal information)
- Yours and Your Spouses ID Documents (if either of you do not have ID documents, you may submit an affidavit to confirm your personal information
- Proof of all household income – any of the following:
- Payslips if employed
- UIF card if receiving UIF
- Affidavit if unemployed
- Pension receipt if on pension
- Proof of any child maintenance or proof that you have tried but are unable to receive maintenance from the other biological parent
- Proof of your spousal relationship – any of the following:
- Marriage certificate: if married
- Divorce order: if divorced
- Spouse death certificate: if your spouse is deceased
- Sworn statement or affidavit if any of the above do not apply (eg. if you are living with a partner and unmarried, if you are separated or do not have contact with your spouse)
- Court order proving that you are the foster parent if applicable
- Affidavit from police/ affidavit from biological parent/ letter from the school/ social worker’s report, if you are the child’s primary caregiver but not the parent
- Sworn statement or affidavit stating your and your spouse’s income if you are married
- Medical or assessment report from a doctor, to confirm that the child is severely disabled due to a physical or mental disability and therefore receives permanent care or support services
