The South Africa Social Security Agency (SASSA) has been mandated to provide grants to South African citizens and permanent residents. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Social Relief of Distress was created to give support to the needy. This is because R350 is what is paid to beneficiaries who qualify for this grant. It is given to people affected by the negative effects of COVID-19.

If you are struggling to make ends meet, SASSA is now accepting applications for the 2025 grant to support your family. We have provided the requirements, credentials needed, and the steps to guide you through the enrollment process below.

SASSA R350 Grant Eligibility Criteria for Application 2025

To be able to apply for the SRD, you have to be sure you qualify to apply per the requirements:

  • You must be a permanent resident in South Africa or must be a citizen of South Africa.
  • You must be at least 18 years of age
  • You should be earning less than the minimum wage or have no source of income or financial support
  • You should not be on any other grant or any other form of social or unemployment insurance
  • You should not have applied for or received any grant from the SASSA before
  • Once you meet all of the requirements listed, you can continue with your application process.

Documents Required for Application for R350 Grant

To apply for the SRD grant, you will need to provide the following documents:

  • Your ID document.
  • Proof of income, such as a recent pay slip or bank statement.
  • Proof of residence, such as a utility bill or lease agreement.
  • Any other relevant documents, such as a death certificate if you are applying on behalf of a deceased person.

How to Apply for an SRD Grant 2025-2026

The agency has created several ways in which one can apply for a grant.

  1. STEP 1: CHOOSE AN APPLICATION METHOD

    Applications for the SRD Grant can be submitted via WhatsApp, the SRD Website, or the SASSA Chatbot. You should only apply via one method – submitting more than one application will not speed up the process it may slow down your application.

    Please read how to apply each of these methods:

    WhatsApp:

    • 1) Send a message via WhatsApp to 082 046 8553
    • 2) Provide your details
    • 3) You will receive a Reference number, an OTP, and a link to click
    • 4) Click on the provided link, fill in your OTP, and verify your account
    • 5) Fill in your surname and ID number
    • 6) Confirm the personal details that you provided via the WhatsApp chat

    SRD Website:

    • 1) In your internet browser, visit the SRD Website(if you are a Refugee, Asylum Seeker or Special Permit Holders, find out how to apply here)
    • 2) Fill in your mobile number and ID number and click “send SMS”
    • 3) You will receive a 6-digit OTP via SMS
    • 4) Insert the OTP number on the SRD website and click “verify pin”

    SASSA Chatbot:

    • 1) In your internet browser, visit the SASSA Website
    • 2) Click on the SRD R350 Grant assistance chatbox (the orange box on the side of the screen)
    • 3) Fill in your ID number and mobile number
    • 4) On the chat, choose the option to apply for the SRD R350 grant
    • 5) Click on the SRD website link provided by the SASSA Chatbot
    • 6) Follow the SRD website steps
