Apply for NSFAS 2026: Who Qualifies and How to Apply:

The applications window for NSFAS 2026-2027 is now open from the 21st of September 2025 and closes on the 31st of January 2026. Fresh and already studying South African students who are enrolling on enrolled in any of the public TVET Colleges or Universities and come from a family with a household annual income of R350,000 are qualified to apply to receive funds from NSFAS.

During the online application period, applicants are required to upload supporting documents. You need to log in to your myNSFAS account and upload the required files. Students with disabilities must submit a completed and signed Disability Annexure Form. This form must be combined with a medical report into one file before uploading it with your application.

All students are required to download and complete the NSFAS 2026 Consent Form. NSFAS has the right to verify all the information provided by the applicant and their parent, guardian, or spouse through independent third-party sources. If you are under the age of 18 and are an orphan or a vulnerable child (if you have experienced abuse, neglect, exploitation, or are at risk of violence or substance abuse), you must also download and complete the NSFAS Orphan or Vulnerable Child Declaration Form.

Students who are 34 years old or younger must download and complete the NSFAS Declaration Form. This form is used to verify the details of your parents or guardians. When To Apply For the NSFAS Online For 2026-2027

To receive NSFAS funds for the academic year 2026, you will need to submit your application before the deadline.

• Nsfas for 2026-2027 will be open for applications from the 21st of September 2026 and will close on the 31st of January 2026.

Applications that will be submitted after the given deadline will not be accepted.

Who Is Eligible To Apply Online For NSFAS For The 2026-2027

For the 2026 academic year, you can only apply if you are:

• Valid Email And Password
• SASSA grant recipients
• South African citizens or permanent residents
• Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350,000 per year
• Persons with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600,000 per year.

• Proof of legal guardianship

What Does The NSFAS Bursary Cover For Students For 2026-2027

Amounts indicated for accommodation, living allowance, transport, and learning materials need to be aligned with the latest approved DHET guidelines:

UNIVERSITY STUDENTS:

• Accommodation (As per the actual costs charged by the university, costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
• Transport (up to 40 km from institution) R7,500 per annum
• Living allowance R15, 000 per annum
• Book allowances R5200 per annum
• Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum for students in catered residences

TVET STUDENTS:

• Accommodation in an urban area R24,000 per annum
• Accommodation in a peri-urban area R18,900 per annum
• Accommodation in a rural area R15,750 per annum
• Transport (up to 40 km from institution) R7,350 per annum
• Transport R7000 per annum
• Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum

How To Apply For NSFAS Online For 2026-2027

• Visit the NSFAS website at www.nsfas.org.za.
• Click on the “myNSFAS” tab.
• Register for a myNSFAS account using your email address and phone number.
• Create a secure password and verify your account with the OTP sent to your email and phone.
• Click on “Apply” and follow the prompts to fill in your details.
• Upload all required supporting documents.
• Submit your application and wait for confirmation.
