How Is NSFAS Application 2026-2027
The NSFAS online application for the 2026-2027 academic year will officially open on 01 September 2025 and close on 30 November 2025. During this period, students who meet the eligibility requirements can apply for financial assistance through the myNSFAS online portal. Applicants must be South African citizens who are either currently enrolled at a public university or a TVET college, or planning to register in the upcoming academic year. Also, your combined household income should not exceed R350,000 per year to qualify. The NSFAS online application for 2026 will open from the 1st of September 2025, and the applications will close on the 3oth November 2025
Note: Applications for NSFAS funding for the academic year 2026 must be submitted before the deadline
Who Qualifies to Apply for NSFAS 2025-2026
For the 2026 academic year, you can only apply if you are;
a.
South African citizens or permanent residents
b. SASSA grant recipients
c.
Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350,000 per year
d. Persons with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600,000 per year.

What Does NSFAS Fund Cover For Students For 2026-2027
Expect to receive the following if you are on the NSFAS Scheme.
UNIVERSITY
a. Accommodation
b. As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
c. Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,500 per annum
d. Living allowance R15, 000 per annum
e. Book allowances R5200 per annum
f. Incidental/personal care allowance of R2900 per annum for students in catered residences
TVET
a. Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
b. Accommodation in a peri-urban area is R18,900 per annum
c. Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
d. Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350 per annum
e. Transport R7000 per annum
f. Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum
