Applicants must meet the following requirements:

The primary care giver must be a South African citizen, permanent resident or refugee.
Both the applicant and the child must reside in South Africa.
The applicant must be the primary care giver of the child/ children concerned.
The child/children must been born after 31 December 1993.
The applicant and spouse must meet the requirements of the means test.
Child can not apply for more than six non biological children.
Child can not be cared for in state institution.

Materials Required To Apply For SASSA Child Support Grants 2025

Applicants must take along the following documents when applying for the child support grant through SASSA (these must be original documents or certified copies):

your 13 digit-bar-coded identity document (ID) and the child’s birth certificate. If you don’t have an ID or the child’s birth certificate:
you must complete an affidavit in a standard SASSA format in the presence of a Commissioner of Oaths who is not a SASSA official.
Bring the following documents:
- a sworn statement by a reputable person (e.g. councillor, traditional leader, social worker, minister of religion) who knows the applicant and child
- proof that you have applied for an ID and/or birth certificate at the Department of Home Affairs
- a temporary ID issued by the Department of Home Affairs (if applicable)
- baptismal certificate if available
- road to health clinic card if available
- school report if available.

How To Register For SASSA Child Support Grant for 2025

If you are applying for a Child Support Grant, follow these steps:

Visit the SASSA services website on any device with internet connectivity (cellphone, tablet, laptop, desktop computer).
Register as a new user on the SASSA services website, by clicking the yellow “Register” button on the home page.
Log in to the SASSA services website using your username and password.
Click on “Apply for a Grant” and then select the type of grant you wish to apply for.
Fill in the grant application form by providing all the required information.
Print the SASSA-generated affidavit and have it certified by a commissioner of oaths. Print, sign and submit the Bank Payment Form with your affidavit.
