Has The Sassa SRD Grant Been Increased? | Sassa Official Statements
On Wednesday, March 12, 2025, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced during the 2025 Budget Speech that all social grants, except for the SRD (Social Relief of Distress) grant, will see an increase starting in April 2025.
Godongwana revealed that the number of grant recipients, excluding SRD beneficiaries, is expected to reach 19 million in 2025/26 and grow to 19.3 million by 2027/28, mainly due to the rising population of elderly South Africans. The government has allocated R284.7 billion towards social grants for the 2025/26 financial year.
While the SRD grant remains at R370 per month, it continues to play a major role in supporting unemployed South Africans. It is also being considered as a foundation for a long-term income support program, with a full review expected by September 2025.
