How To Apply For Caregivers R350 2025-2026

Applying for the Caregivers R350 grant is an essential step towards obtaining financial backing and support in South Africa. The Carers R350 award, also known as the Care Dependency grant, is intended to help carers who provide full-time care to disabled children or adults who require continual care and supervision.

The grant trains to ease financial stress and give the necessary support to individuals who devote their lives to caring for their loved ones. Necessities For Caregivers R350 2025-2026

To apply for the Caregivers R350 Grant, you must first fulfill the qualification requirements (which are subject to change). The following are the criteria:

  • You must be a Citizen of South Africa
  • You must be a Permanent Citizen Dweller or a Fugitive
  • You must be a parent, a foster parent or a primary care-giver of a child under 18 years old
  • The child must NOT be receiving permanent care in a state-funded institution
  • You and the child must both reside within South Africa
  • You must be able to prove that the child is severely disabled and is receiving permanent care or support services
  • You and your spouse must meet the requirements of a means test – see the amount below (this does not apply to foster parents)

How To Apply For Caregivers R350 2025-2026

To apply for the Caregivers R350 Grant 2025-2026, you can either go to a SASSA office near you or apply online. If you are unable to attend the SASSA office because you are too sick, aged, or disabled, a family member or friend may apply on your behalf. Below are the procedures for applying for the grant:

Apply via WhatsApp:

  • Send a message via WhatsApp to 082 046 8553
  • Provide your details
  • You will receive a Reference number, an OTP and a link to click
  • Click on the provided link, fill in your OTP and verify your account
  • Fill in your surname and ID number
  • Confirm the personal details that you provided via the WhatsApp chat

SRD Website:

  • In your internet browser, visit the SRD Website(if you are a Refugee, Asylum Seeker or Special Permit Holders, find out how to apply here)
  • Fill in your mobile number and ID number and click “send SMS”
  • You will receive a 6-digit OTP via SMS
  • Insert the OTP number on the SRD website and click “verify pin”

Using the SASSA Chatbot:

  • In your internet browser, visit the SASSA Website
  • Click on the SRD R350 Grant assistance chatbox (the orange box on the side of the screen)
  • Fill in your ID number and mobile number
  • On the chat, choose the option to apply for the SRD R350 grant
  • Click on the SRD website link provided by the SASSA Chatbot
  • Follow the SRD website steps

To Apply In-Person;

  • Visit a SASSA office close to you
  • Completed the SASSA application form in the presence of a SASSA officer
  • After completing the application form completely, you will be given a dated stamped receipt that includes the name of the SASSA official who aided you with your application.
  • keep your receipt as proof of application.

Legal Papers Required When Applying Caregivers R350 2025-2026

When applying for the Caregivers R350 grant, applicants must have the following documentation with them (originals or certified copies):

  • The child’s ID Document or Birth Certificate (if this is not available, you may submit an affidavit to confirm personal information).
  • Yours and Your Spouses ID Documents (if either of you do not have ID documents, you may submit an affidavit to confirm your personal information
  • Proof of all household income – any of the following:
  1. Payslips if employed
  2. UIF card if receiving UIF
  3. Affidavit if jobless
  4. Pension receipt if on pension
  5. Proof of any child maintenance or proof that you have tried but are unable to receive maintenance from the other biological parent
  • Proof of your spousal relationship – any of the following:
  1. Marriage certificate: if married
  2. Divorce order: if divorced
  3. Spouses death certificate: if your spouse is deceased
  4. Sworn statement or affidavit if any of the above do not apply (eg. if you are living with a partner and unmarried, if you are separated or do not have contact with your spouse)
  5. Court order proving that you are the foster parent if applicable
  6. Affidavit from police/ affidavit from biological parent/ letter from the school/ social worker’s report, if you are the child’s primary caregiver but not the parent
  • Sworn statement or affidavit stating yours and your spouses’ income if you are married
  • Medical or assessment report from a doctor, to confirm that the child is severely disabled due to a physical or mental disability and therefore receives permanent care or support services.
