What documents are Required for Applying for Sassa Caregiver Grant 2024-2025?
- The child’s ID Document or Birth Certificate (if this is not available, you may submit an affidavit to confirm personal information) (download the SASSA affidavit here)
- Yours and Your Spouses ID Documents (if either of you does not have ID documents, you may submit an affidavit to confirm your personal information (download the SASSA affidavit here)
- Proof of all household income – any of the following:
- Payslips if employed
- UIF card if receiving UIF
- Affidavit if unemployed
- Pension receipt if on pension
- Proof of any child maintenance or proof that you have tried but are unable to receive maintenance from the other biological parent
- proof of your spousal relationship – any of the following:
- Marriage certificate: if married
- Divorce order: if divorced
- Spouses death certificate: if your spouse is deceased
- Sworn statement or affidavit if any of the above do not apply (eg. if you are living with a partner and unmarried, if you are separated or do not have contact with your spouse)
- Court order proving that you are the foster parent if applicable
- Affidavit from police/ affidavit from biological parent/ letter from the school/ social worker’s report, if you are the child’s primary caregiver but not the parent
- Sworn statement or affidavit stating your and your spouses’ income if you are married
- Medical or assessment report from a doctor, to confirm that the child is severely disabled due to a physical or mental disability and therefore receives permanent care or support services.

How To Apply For Sassa Caregiver Grant 2024-2025
Individuals must complete an application form and provide supporting evidence to verify their eligibility for the Sassa Caregiver Grant. This can be done through the various application methods provided by Sassa. Select from the below methods, to apply for the Sassa Grant 2024;
Apply via WhatsApp:
- Send a message via WhatsApp to 082 046 8553
- Provide your personal details
- You will receive a Reference number, an OTP and a link to click
- Click on the provided link, fill in your OTP and verify your account
- Fill in your surname and ID number
- Confirm the personal details that you provided via the WhatsApp chat
Apply via SRD Website:
- In your internet browser, visit the SRD Website(if you are a Refugee, Asylum Seeker or Special Permit Holders, find out how to apply here)
- Fill in your mobile number and ID number and click “send SMS”
- You will receive a 6-digit OTP via SMS
- Insert the OTP number on the SRD website and click “verify pin”
Using the SASSA Chatbot:
- In your internet browser, visit the SASSA Website
- Click on the SRD R350 Grant assistance chatbox (the orange box on the side of the screen)
- Fill in your ID number and mobile number
- On the chat, choose the option to apply for the SRD R350 grant
- Click on the SRD website link provided by the SASSA Chatbot
- Follow the SRD website steps
To Apply In-Person;
- Visit a SASSA office close to you
- Completed the SASSA application form in the presence of a SASSA officer
- After completing the application form completely, you will be given a dated stamped receipt that includes the name of the SASSA official who aided you with your application.

Sassa Caregiver Grant Payment Methods
When a grant is granted, you will be paid on the day you applied. If you want your grant paid into your bank account, you must fill out the Consent Form for Bank Payment of SASSA Grant and supply the necessary documents:
- proof of identification (ID document/birth certificate/driver’s licence)
- evidence of bank account in your name (received from the bank)
- 3 months’ bank statement displaying your personal data (name and bank account number).
