Applicant must ;
- Be a South African Citizen
- Be A Refugee in South Africa
- Be an Asylum Seeker in South Africa with a valid Section 22 permit or visa
- Be a Special Permit Holder in South Africa (under the Special Angolan Dispensation, the Lesotho Exemption Permit Dispensation, or the Zimbabwe Exemption Permit Dispensation)
- Be between 18 and 60 years old
- Meet the means test, with an income of R624 or less per month
- Be unemployed and NOT be receiving financial support from any other source
- Have insufficient financial means to support yourself
- NOT be receiving any other social grants for yourself
- NOT be contributing towards or eligible for UIF payment
- NOT be unreasonably refuse to accept employment or educational opportunities
- NOT be receiving a stipend from NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme)

Sassa Relief Of Distress Registration Procedure for 2025-2026
Applications for the SRD Grant can be submitted via WhatsApp, the SRD Website, or the SASSA Chatbot. Follow the below step-by-step procedure to apply for a Sassa grant;
To Apply Online ;
- Visit the SASSA services official website on any device with internet connectivity
- Register as a new user on the SASSA services website, by clicking the yellow “Register”
- Provide the required personal information
- Log in to the SASSA services website using your newly created username and password.
- Click on “Apply for a Grant” and then select the type of grant you wish to apply for.
- Fill in the grant application form by providing all the required information.
- Print the affidavit prepared by SASSA and get it certified by an oath commissioner. Print, sign, and mail your affidavit together with the Bank Payment Form.
- Upload the following certified supporting documents in PDF format.
Apply In-Person;
- Visit a SASSA office close to you
- Completed the SASSA application form in the presence of a SASSA officer
- After completing the application form completely, you will be given a dated stamped receipt that includes the name of the SASSA official who aided you with your application.

Sassa Payment Method
Your Grant will be paid in any method preferred 0f the recipient including the two provided below:
- Directly into your bank account
- Collected in cash: from Spar, Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, Boxer, and USave stores. The Post Office will no longer be a collection point for the R350 grants.
When receiving your grant cash, bring your ID and mobile (with the contact number they used to apply for the award).
When you apply, you may specify your preferred payment method. You may also change your chosen form of payment.
