Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • The applicant must be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee.
  • The applicant must be a resident of South Africa.

  • The applicant must submit a medical / assessment report confirming permanent, severe disability.
  • The applicant’s medical assessment must not be older than 3 months at the date of application.
  • The applicant and spouse must meet the requirements of the means test.
  • The applicant must not be maintained or cared for in a State Institution.
  • The applicant must not receive another social grant in respect of him or herself.

Supporting Document Required For Sassa Physical Impairment Grant Application

  • ID Document (if this is not available, you may submit an affidavit to confirm personal information)
  • Refugee status permit and 13-digit refugee ID: if applicable
  • Medical report and functional assessment report confirming your disability
  • Proof of marital status: if you are married
  • Proof of residence
  • Proof of income or dividends: if applicable
  • Proof of assets, including the municipal value of your property: if applicable
  • Proof of private pension: if applicable
  • 3 months’ bank statements

How To Get Access to the Sassa Infirmity Grant

Applicants can get the Disability Grant after undergoing a medical evaluation by visiting a SASSA office nearby or online. Follow the step-by-step procedure outlined below to apply for the Sassa Disability Grant;

Apply via WhatsApp:

  • Send a message via WhatsApp to 082 046 8553
  • Provide your details
  • You will receive a Reference number, an OTP, and a link to click
  • Click on the provided link, fill in your OTP, and verify your account
  • Fill in your surname and ID number
  • Confirm the personal details that you provided via the WhatsApp chat

Apply via the SRD Website:

  • In your internet browser, visit the SRD Website(if you are a Refugee, Asylum Seeker, or Special Permit Holders, find out how to apply here)
  • Fill in your mobile number and ID number and click “send SMS”
  • You will receive a 6-digit OTP via SMS
  • Insert the OTP number on the SRD website and click “verify pin”

Using the SASSA Chatbot:

  • In your internet browser, visit the SASSA Website
  • Click on the SRD R350 Grant assistance chatbox (the orange box on the side of the screen)
  • Fill in your ID number and mobile number
  • On the chat, choose the option to apply for the SRD R350 grant
  • Click on the SRD website link provided by the SASSA Chatbot
  • Follow the SRD website steps

To Apply In-Person;

  • Visit a SASSA office close to you
  • Completed the SASSA application form in the presence of a SASSA officer
  • After completing the application form completely, you will be given a dated stamped receipt that includes the name of the SASSA official who aided you with your application.

SASSA Disability Grant Payment Steps

Applications are assessed within 30 business days after submission, and you will be notified in writing whether your application was approved or refused. you are rejected, SASSA will provide a reason for your refusal. If your application was denied, you may request that SASSA revisit it.

If your grant is granted, you will be paid on the day you filed it, which is usually the third or fourth of the month. Your Disability Grant will be paid in one of three ways, depending on your preferences:

  • Directly into your bank account
  • Collected in cash from approved pay points
  • From specific institutions
