Can I Apply for SASSA Grants in 2026? Latest Updates & Process:

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has officially opened applications for the 2026 grant cycle, including the popular Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R370 grant, previously known as the R350 grant. If you are unemployed or earn less than R624 per month, you may be eligible to apply for this financial support.

SASSA is responsible for distributing social grants to millions of South Africans each month. These grants are designed to assist vulnerable individuals, families, and children who face financial hardship. According to SASSA representative Mr. Themba Matlou, the agency has opened the application process for 2026, and all qualifying individuals are encouraged to apply online through the official SASSA SRD portal at srd.sassa.gov.za.

Apart from the SRD grant, SASSA also offers various permanent grants such as the Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant, Child Support Grant, Foster Child Grant, and more. Each of these has specific eligibility requirements, but the application process is now more streamlined thanks to the introduction of online services.

Applying early ensures your information is captured and verified in time for payment processing.
