NSFAS Financial Aid Requirements 2025

The  National Students Financial Aid Scheme is a government-funded program for students based in South Africa or citizens of South Africa designed to provide financial aid to the needy from low-income backgrounds. To be eligible for the NSFAS program you must meet the standard requirement. The information here will guide you through the requirements and help you secure the funds for your academic purpose.

 

Requirement Needed For The 2025 NSFAS

These are the requirements candidates must meet when applying for the National Students Financial Aid Scheme.

• Be a permanent resident or citizen of South Africa
• SASSA grants recipients
• Candidates whose combined gross household income is less than R350,000 per year
• Persons with disability challenges whose combined gross household income is less than R600,000 per year
• Candidates must have a valid phone number and e-mail

 

Important Dates For NSFAS 2025

Opening Date Application is on November 21, 2024

Closing Date Application is on January 31, 2025

Funding Decision: The NSFAS funding decisions are normally announced between the months of January and February before the beginning of the academic year.

 

Documents To Apply For NSFAS

These documents must be ready before beginning the 2025 Application

Students with a disability must provide:

• A finished and signed Disability Annexure A Form

Students recognized as vulnerable children must provide the following:

• Candidates who are being recognized as vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide a declaration form to be completed by the social worker

 

Other Documents To Be Required If Applicable

• Retrenchments Letter
• Death Certificate/s
• Divorce Decree
• Proof of legal guardianship
• Marriage Certificate
• other papers may be required for appeal purposes…..eg retrenchment
