The South African government has set aside R36 billion of its budget to fund the extension of the COVID-19 social relief of distress grant. Provided below is the payout schedule/ date for May 2025;

Older Persons or Pensioners Grants: May 3, 2025
Disability Grants: May 6, 2025
Children’s and all other Grants: May 7, 2025

NOTE: Sassa payments are made to beneficiaries in the first week of every month. All grants including; Older Persons Grants, Disability Grants, and then any other grant-type payments are not made on the same day each month. Payment dates are sometimes influenced by weekends, holidays and processing periods.

SASSA Payment In May 2025

SASSA grant recipients are provided with options to receive their payments. The payments can either be received through monthly bank deposits or as direct cash payments. To save time and avoid lengthy queues on payment days, it is advisable to wait for a few days before collecting your grant funds.

To qualify for bank payments, it is important to possess an active bank account and a registered mobile number in your name with a recognized financial institution in South Africa.
