SASSA Grant

SASSA Relief has become a support system that has saved many from distress. The SASSA is the short form of the South Africa Social Security Agency. The agency was established to ensure that people who were in distress were taken care of. This particular scheme under the SASSA is known as the Social Relief of Distress or SRD. Sometimes it is called “Relief”.

This write-up will provide information about the relief of the SASSA. You will be guided on who qualifies to apply for SASSA relief, how to apply and what you need to be able to apply and become a beneficiary.

What is the SASSA Relief Grant?

The Relief Grant is a three-month breather given to citizens of South Africa and permanent residents to support the unemployed and those who earn below the minimum wage. It was set up because, primarily, a lot of people lost their sources of livelihood during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

How much is the SASSA Grant?

The grant is a monthly stipend of around R350 to people who qualify after application. The money is paid into the bank account of qualified applicants. For those who don’t have a bank account, they receive their stipends in cash.
