Who Can Get Social Relief Distress Grant 2025?
To qualify for the SRD, certain criteria must be met. SRD grant eligibility criteria include;
- Be a South African Citizen
- Be A Refugee in South Africa
- Be an Asylum Seeker in South Africa with a valid Section 22 permit or visa
- Be a Special Permit Holder in South Africa (under the Special Angolan Dispensation, the Lesotho Exemption Permit Dispensation, or the Zimbabwe Exemption Permit Dispensation)
- Be between 18 and 60 years old
- Meet the means test, with an income of R624 or less per month
- Be unemployed and NOT be receiving financial support from any other source
- Have insufficient financial means to support yourself
- NOT be receiving any other social grants for yourself
- NOT be contributing towards or eligible for UIF payment
- NOT be unreasonably refuse to accept employment or educational opportunities
- NOT be receiving a stipend from NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme)
Social Relief Of Distress Grant Application Process for 2025
To apply for an SRD grant, you can either apply online via the SRD official website, through WhatsApp, or in person at the SASSA center or office, Chatbox. The following are some procedures for applying for an SRD grant;
To Apply Online ;
- Visit the SASSA services official website on any device with internet connectivity
- Register as a new user on the SASSA services website, by clicking the yellow “Register”
- Provide the required personal information
- Log in to the SASSA services website using your newly created username and password.
- Click on “Apply for a Grant” and then select the type of grant you wish to apply for.
- Fill in the grant application form by providing all the required information.
- Print the affidavit prepared by SASSA and get it certified by an oath commissioner. Print, sign, and mail your affidavit together with the Bank Payment Form.

- Visit a SASSA office close to you
- Completed the SASSA application form in the presence of a SASSA officer
- After completing the application form completely, you will be given a dated stamped receipt that includes the name of the SASSA official who aided you with your application.

SRD Verification And Validation Of Application
SASSA compares your personal information provided(ID number, name, and surname) to a database maintained by the Department of Home Affairs. SASSA compares your ID number to recognized databases such as UIF, SARS, and NSFAS. Fraud risk scoring is performed in collaboration with fraud protection partners, and your ID number and mobile number are verified against recognized databases.
