What Is The SASSA SRD Grant

Who Is Eligible for SASSA SRD Benefits

To qualify for SASSA SRD benefits, you must meet the conditions specified below:

  • You must be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee registered in the Department of Home Affairs database.
  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • You must not receive any other form of income or social assistance. You must not have any source of income.
  • You cannot receive unemployment insurance benefits or any other government-sponsored financial assistance.

Application Procedure for the SASSA SRD Scholarship

You can undertake one of the following to submit an application for SASSA SRD funding:

  • Apply online by going to the SASSA website and filling out the form there.
  • Text “SASSA” to 082 046 8553 to apply via WhatsApp. Then, follow the on-screen directions. Apply at the local SASSA office.

To check the status of your SASSA SRD application, you can do the following:

  • Go to SASSA’s website and click on the “Subsidies” tab.
  • Click on the “COVID-19 SRD” option. Enter your ID number and click “Submit”.
  • The website will then tell you the status of your application.

Amount SASSA Pay

The type of grant and the applicant’s eligibility determine how much SASSA will pay. The categories of scholarships offered by SASSA and the amounts they award are described below:

  • Old age allowance:

This is a monthly allowance paid to people aged 60 and over. From May 2023, the amount paid for Old Age Benefit is R1,980 per month.

  • Disability benefits:

This is a monthly allowance paid to people who are unable to work due to a permanent incapacity to work. In May 2023, the amount paid for Disability Benefits is R1,980 per month.

  • Veterans Scholarship:

This is a monthly stipend paid to individuals who have served in the South African Self-Defense Forces or the Liberation Army before 1994. As of May 2023, the amount paid for the Veterans’ Allowance is R1,980 per month.

  • Child support:

This is a monthly allowance paid to caregivers of children under 18 years of age. As of May 2023, the amount paid for child support is R470 per month.

  • Adoption allowance:

This is a monthly allowance paid to adoptive parents or caregivers of children in a foster care facility. From May 2023, the amount to be paid for the adoption allowance is Rs 1,350 per month.

  • Nursing care allowance:

This is a monthly allowance paid to carers of severely disabled children. As of May 2023, the amount paid for the Dependent Care Allowance is R1,980 per month.

  • Social Relief Suffering (SRD):

This is a monthly allowance paid to people who are in urgent need of financial assistance. The amount paid for the SRD grant varies and may vary depending on the circumstances. It is important to note that this amount is subject to change and may vary depending on your personal circumstances and eligibility criteria.

 

Will SASSA Pay Reconsideration

If you have successfully lodged an appeal for the special COVID-19 SRD grant, your application will be reconsidered and you will be notified of the outcome thereof. Successful appeals will be paid for applicable months. An SMS notification will be sent to you in due course directing you to what to do next.
