How to Maintain NSFAS Funding in 2026–2027: Required Pass Percentage:

If you are a student in South Africa planning to apply for NSFAS funding for the 2026–2027 academic year, it is important to understand the academic pass requirements that come with the financial support. One of the conditions to keep receiving NSFAS funding is maintaining a minimum pass percentage in your course modules. NSFAS uses these academic progression rules to ensure that students are making steady progress in their studies.

For university students, you must pass at least 60% of your modules each academic term to continue qualifying for the NSFAS funding. This means that if you are registered for five modules in a term, you must pass at least three of them. Falling below this required percentage may lead to losing your NSFAS support.

For TVET college students, the requirements differ slightly depending on your programme. If you are studying a Report 191 programme, you need to pass 3 out of 4 subjects. For students in NC(V) programmes, you must pass at least 5 subjects to move on to the next level and stay funded. Those studying occupational programmes will follow academic progression rules set by their TVET colleges, and those results are shared with NSFAS.

NSFAS not only provides financial help but also expects students to stay committed to their education. Meeting the required pass percentage is essential for keeping your funding and successfully progressing through your academic journey in 2026–2027.

What Is The Pass Percentage For NSFAS For 2026-2027

  • For university students to maintain ongoing support from the loan scheme, they must pass at least 60% of their course modules each academic term.

For TVET College students, continuous funding depends on their academic performance in the following ways:

  • For Report 191 programmes, students must pass at least 3 out of 4 subjects at their level.

NSFAS Pass Percentage Requirement for University Students

  • For students enrolled in public universities, NSFAS requires a minimum pass rate of 60%. This means that you must pass at least 60% of the modules or courses you register for in each academic term. For example, if you are enrolled in five modules, you must pass at least three of them to meet the NSFAS requirement and continue receiving funding.

Failing to meet this 60% pass rate could lead to a loss of funding for the following academic term or year, so it’s important to stay focused and manage your academic responsibilities carefully.
