When Can I Apply For NSFAS 2026-2027

Apply for NSFAS 2026-2027: Important Dates You Should Not Miss:

The online application period for the NSFAS 2026-2027 academic year will officially open on 21 November 2025 and close on 31 January 2026. During this period, eligible students currently enrolled at any public university or TVET college in South Africa can apply for funding through the myNSFAS online portal. It is important to note that all applications must be submitted online only no manual forms will be accepted. Late submissions will not be processed, so be sure to apply well before the deadline.

To qualify for NSFAS funding, you must be a South African citizen registered at a public higher education institution and come from a household with a combined annual income of R350,000 or less. NSFAS, which operates under the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), aims to support financially disadvantaged students who want to pursue studies at universities or TVET colleges.

The funding provided by NSFAS covers essential academic costs, including accommodation, learning materials, transport, and a living allowance, all based on the most recent DHET guidelines. Applicants are advised to visit the official NSFAS website, download and complete the application form, and upload all required supporting documents before submitting.

When Is The NSFAS Application 2026-2027

  • NSFAS 2026-2027 academic year will be open from November 21, 2025, to January 31, 2026.

Note:

  • Applications for NSFAS funding for the academic year 2025-2026 must be submitted before the deadline

List Of Requirements to Apply for NSFAS 2026-2027

For the 2026-2027 academic year, you can only apply if you are;

  • South African citizens or permanent residents
  • SASSA grant recipients
  • Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350,000 per year
  • Persons with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600,000 per year.
  • Must have an email account and cell phone number.

  • Retrenchment letter
  • Death certificate/s
  • Divorce Decree
  • Proof of legal guardianship
  • Marriage certificate
  • Other documents may be required for appeal purposes, retrenchment letter

  • Create a profile:

Create a myNSFAS account via this link: https://my.nsfas.org.za/ or download the NSFAS App on Google Play or App Store. Your ID number will be your username.

  • Apply now:

Click on the “Apply’ tab to update your personal information and upload your application supporting documents, as indicated.

  • Complete:

Submit your application
