NSFAS Statement On The Payment Of The 2026 Students’ Allowances
Following thorough discussions and consultation with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and the broader Post-School Education and Training (PSET) sector, the approved allowance caps for 2026 have been finalized and are now ready for implementation.
If any institution finds it necessary to go beyond these capped allowance amounts, it must first obtain written approval from NSFAS before submitting payments that exceed the approved limits.
Nsfas Second Upfront Payment to Universities

Payment to TVET Colleges
NSFAS initiated payments to TVET Colleges starting on 07 March 2026, covering two months’ worth of allowances. These payments were based on valid registration data received from colleges.
- As of the start of business on 4th March 2026, 18 TVET colleges had successfully uploaded registration data. NSFAS processed and released initial payments to the qualifying students from these institutions.
- To ensure that all students receive their allowances during March 2026, NSFAS is actively monitoring registration uploads. A second payment run is scheduled for Friday, 14 March 2026, with a final registration upload cut-off date of Monday, 10 March 2026.
This second round of payments will ensure that all students whose valid registration data was uploaded after the first cut-off still receive their allowances within the same month.
